Yong-Duk Kim is Chairman & CEO of the General Insurance Association of Korea (GIAK), an industry trade group representing Korea’s general insurance and reinsurance market. 

Kim’s professional career has been mainly in international finance and financial supervision. In his early career, he dealt with government policies on international finance issues, particularly during the Asian financial crisis of 1997. He then went on to become Advisor to the President for Economic Affairs, providing guidance on economic policies and playing major roles in economic events such as the Korea-U.S. FTA negotiations. 

In 2007, Kim became Chairman of the Financial Supervisory Commission where he oversaw the supervisory policies and practices in banking, securities, insurance and other financial sectors. One of his notable contributions was preventing the spread of the 2008 financial crisis to Korean financial markets. After retirement he returned to his alma mater, Korea University, to teach courses on international finance until he was appointed as Chairman & CEO of the GIAK in 2017. 

Kim holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Korea University as well as an MBA from Ateneo De Manila University.
