Recaredo Arias holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and an MBA specialised in finance and marketing from the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, Mexico. 

He has worked in the financial sector for his entire career. His first spell as general director of AMIS was from 1989 to 1992. He was then general director of Aseguradora Cuauhtémoc from 1992 to 1993, deputy director of administration and finance of Banca Cremi until 1994 and then general director of Seguros La Territorial until to 2001. 

Arias rejoined AMIS in 2003 and has participated in North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) negotiations, facilitated the implementation of Solvency II regulation among Mexican insurers and participated in the negotiation of Mexico’s 2015 Insurance and Surety Companies Law (LISF). He has contributed to the development of microinsurance in Mexico and throughout Latin America and he coordinated a Multilateral Investment Fund project of the Inter-American Development Bank in six countries. 

In 2008, he became general secretary of FIDES, the Interamerican Federation of Insurance Companies, for four years and is the former vice-president of the Global Federation of Insurance Associations (GFIA) from 2012 to 2018, whose financial inclusion working group he chaired.

Since November 8th, 2018, Recaredo became the President of the Global Federation of Insurance Associations.
